Meet Victoria Oxley : A Trailblazer in Girls’ Rugby

Victoria became part of the Dinnington Rugby Union Football Club family back in 2001, joining their inaugural girls’ team. As a tight head prop, she dedicated six years to the game, leaving an indelible mark on the field. Her journey took her to countless matches, crisscrossing the country and even representing Yorkshire—a testament to her skill and determination.

Yet, Victoria’s path was not without challenges. In a world where stereotypes still lingered, she faced adversity and hostility. Skeptics whispered, “Girls can’t do that,” but Victoria and her teammates proved them wrong. They endured boys pulling their hair and even changed in cramped restroom stalls when proper facilities were lacking. Despite it all, Dinningtons unwavering commitment paid off—they secured new changing rooms, a symbol of progress and inclusivity.

Now, Victoria is thrilled to be part of Dinnington girls’ program. Her passion lies in ensuring that young female athletes have equal opportunities and experiences. She firmly believes that every girl should have access to rugby at the same level as their male counterparts. By empowering the women of the future, Victoria hopes to unlock their full potential and reinforce the idea that all hobbies are not only accessible but also acceptable.
