Vacancy: Volunteer Chief Technology Officer (CTO)
Dinnington Rugby Union Football Club (DRUFC)
Introduction
Dinnington Rugby Union Football Club is a thriving, community-based club currently competing at Counties 1 level. Established in 1968, the Club supports senior men's rugby, Colts, Minis & Juniors and Walking Rugby.
As the Club continues to grow, so does its reliance on technology to support fixtures, registration, safeguarding, communications and finance. We are seeking a committed Volunteer Chief Technology Officer to lead the Club's IT strategy and ensure our systems are secure, reliable and fit for a modern grassroots club.
The Role
The Volunteer CTO plays an important leadership role in developing and maintaining the technology that underpins Dinnington Rugby Union Football Club, from the network and infrastructure through to the platforms used for communication, marketing and administration.
Working alongside the Senior Committee, the CTO leads the Club's IT strategy, oversees the delivery of functional and infrastructure services, and ensures the Club's technology meets its cybersecurity and compliance obligations, including UK GDPR.
Acting as a technical advisor to the Committee, the CTO helps translate emerging technology opportunities into practical, affordable improvements for the Club, and builds business cases so the Committee can make informed decisions on investment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the IT strategy for the Club.
- Maintain the Club network.
- Maintain and deliver IT functional services, including email, messaging, website, marketing and social media management.
- Maintain and deliver infrastructure services, including network, cloud, telecommunications and data services.
- Maintain and deliver cybersecurity services, including protection and prevention.
- Maintain the secure storage and management of identities and privileged access associated with the Club's infrastructure and information systems.
- Ensure IT and infrastructure services are compliant with relevant standards and legislation, including UK GDPR.
- Develop business cases for new technology developments and improvements, for Committee approval.
Person Specification
- Working knowledge of IT infrastructure, networks and cloud services.
- Understanding of cybersecurity principles and good practice.
- Understanding of data protection and UK GDPR in a community or volunteer setting.
- Ability to explain technical decisions clearly to a non-technical Committee.
- Well organised, with good planning and prioritisation skills.
- Willingness to delegate functional areas, such as social media or website content, rather than deliver everything personally.
- Passion for community sport and supporting grassroots rugby.
Experience and Skills
Previous experience in an IT leadership or infrastructure role would be beneficial but is not essential. Knowledge of cybersecurity, networking or cloud services is desirable. Experience of committee work or volunteer organisations is helpful but not required. Full handover, induction and ongoing support will be provided.
What You'll Gain
- Play a key role in shaping the Club's technology for years to come.
- Help protect the Club's data, systems and reputation.
- Work alongside a passionate and dedicated team of volunteers.
- Gain valuable leadership and governance experience at Committee level.
- Build a portfolio of practical infrastructure and cybersecurity work.
- Make a lasting difference to your local community.
Additional Information
- This is a voluntary role and carries no remuneration.
- Flexible time commitment, with peak periods around season start and major system changes.
- Reports to the Committee via the Chair.
- Optional attendance of monthly Committee meetings.
- Works closely with the Committee, Age Group Managers, coaches and volunteers across the Club.
