Contract Type: Self-employed
Hours: Approx. 4 hours per week (on-field coaching + match support)
Additional Activity: School engagement sessions (ad-hoc / planned)
Funding: Supported by Sport England
Reporting To: Girls & Women’s Rugby Lead / Club Committee

About the Role

Dinnington RUFC is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Community Rugby Coach to lead the development of our rapidly growing Girls’ and Women’s Rugby section.

The club currently runs teams at U12, U14 and U16, with a clearly defined ambition — supported by Sport England funding — to:

  • Launch an U18s team, and
  • Establish a Senior Women’s (social/friendly) team within 3 years, progressing to county/regional competition within 5 years.

This role will be central to achieving that pathway. The primary focus is on recruitment, retention, and creating a sustainable long-term structure for girls’ and women’s rugby at Dinnington RUFC.

Key Responsibilities

On-Field Coaching (4 hours per week total)

  • Lead Wednesday evening training sessions for girls’ age-grade teams (U12, U14, U16).
  • Provide match day coaching and support on Sundays.
  • Assist with transition planning for U16s progressing to U18s, and eventually to Senior Women’s rugby.
  • Ensure training aligns with RFU best practice, player welfare standards, and age-grade development frameworks.

Player Recruitment & Retention

  • Drive recruitment across all age groups, with the explicit goal of establishing full squads capable of competing in:
    • Yorkshire Cup
    • Regional Girls’ Competitions
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive and fun environment that encourages new players to join and existing players to stay and progress.
  • Work closely with club volunteers to support player engagement, attendance monitoring, and parental communication.

Community & Schools Engagement

  • Support the club’s school outreach programme by attending and assisting with sessions in local primary and secondary schools.
  • Introduce girls to rugby through fun, confidence-building activities with a clear pathway into the club.
  • Help maintain relationships with PE staff and school leaders to promote sustained participation.

Club Development Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with the Girls’ & Women’s Rugby Lead and committee representatives.
  • Assist in identifying barriers to participation and proposing practical solutions.
  • Contribute to the long-term strategic plan for the section’s growth.

Person Specification

Essential

  • RFU England Rugby Coaching Award (ERCA) or equivalent Level 2 rugby coaching qualification.
  • Valid DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one through the club).
  • Valid and appropriate First Aid Qualification (or willingness to obtain one through the club).
  • Experience coaching youth players (girls or mixed groups).
  • Ability to lead engaging, inclusive and age-appropriate training sessions.
  • Strong communication skills with players, parents and club officials.
  • Understands and values the principles of safe, fun, player-centred coaching.
  • Available Wednesday evenings and Sundays during the season.
  • Ability to work on a self-employed basis.

Desirable

  • Experience coaching girls’ or women’s rugby specifically.
  • RFU Kids First training and/or safeguarding certificates.
  • Experience with school or community sport delivery.
  • Ability to inspire confidence and enthusiasm in new and inexperienced players.

What We’re Looking For

This role would suit a coach who:

  • Is passionate about growing the women’s game,
  • Can motivate and develop young players,
  • Enjoys community engagement,
  • And wants to play a pivotal role in building a sustainable pathway from U12s all the way to Senior Women’s rugby.

On-field success will be an outcome in time — but this role is about people, participation and long-term impact, not short-term results.
