Club Treasurer

Purpose of the Role

The Treasurer plays a key role in ensuring the financial health, sustainability, and governance of the club. You will oversee all financial activity, provide insight to support decision-making, and ensure appropriate controls and compliance are in place.

This role would suit someone who:

  • Is financially literate, with experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or finance
  • Is confident managing budgets and financial reporting
  • Has strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Is comfortable using spreadsheets or finance systems
  • Can provide clear, practical financial advice to a committee

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Governance

  • Lead all financial matters for the club
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records
  • Ensure appropriate financial controls and processes are in place
  • Provide financial insight to support committee decision-making

Budgeting & Reporting

  • Develop and monitor the annual club budget
  • Track income and expenditure, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Prepare and present regular financial updates to the committee
  • Produce year-end accounts and financial reports

Compliance & Administration

  • Submit all required statutory and regulatory returns (e.g. VAT, tax, grants where applicable)
  • Ensure all financial obligations are met, including affiliation fees and insurances
  • Maintain appropriate documentation and audit trail

 Income & Commercial Oversight

  • Work with relevant committee members to monitor income streams (e.g. membership, bar, events, sponsorship)
  • Support initiatives to improve financial performance and sustainability
  • Oversee supplier payments and financial commitments

  • Club Chair and Committee Members
  • Membership Secretary
  • Bar / Facilities Manager
  • Events and Fundraising Leads
  • External stakeholders (e.g. auditors, governing bodies if applicable)

Time Commitment

  • Agreement to the club’s code of conduct
