After a sluggish start, Dinnington fought hard to win away from home 20 points to 21 with a last kick of the game penalty by Jonny West. There were also winning debuts for Travis Massey, William Cockerham, Harry Pinder, and Paul Kelly.
The game saw Roundhegians take the lead with a converted backline try, before Will Cockerham converted a penalty making the score 7 - 0. This was shortly followed by another Roundhegians try (unconverted). Another penalty from Will Cockerham for Dinnington kept the visitors within touching distance.
Roundhegians then surged ahead with another unconverted try before half time leaving the score at 17 - 6 at halftime.
The second half saw Roundhegians extend their lead with a penalty to 20 - 6. Despite the scoreline, Dinnington dominated in the forwards and began playing an astute positional game.
The comeback began as forward Ant Green went over for a converted try Johnny West. What followed was a tense 20 mins as both teams fought hard and Dinnington was held up over the line.
With the scores so close Dinnington became bolder in their play which resulted in a try for the debutant Travis Massey as Roundhegians let the ball bounce on a hard pitch.
With the score at 20-18, the Dinnington fly half attempted both a long-range penalty and an audacious drop goal - both narrowly missing. Dinnington refused to give up and displayed an in-built belief that they’d win the match. This belief was rewarded with a last-minute penalty, confidently converted by Johnny West for Dinnington.
Dinnington ended the match and deserved victors 20 - 21.
Club Captain, Damian White said:
