Dinnington welcomed Huddersfield to Lodge Lane, eager to extend their unbeaten start to the 2024/25 season - and they wasted no time making their intentions clear.
Known for their explosive starts, Dinnington once again struck early. Within just two minutes, the forwards powered through the Huddersfield defence, setting up a slick pass out to the left wing. Ben White, with a burst of pace, sliced through two defenders and dived over for the first try. The home crowd roared and Dinnington were off to a flying start.
The match was anything but easy, though. Dinnington battled fiercely not only against the Huddersfield pack but also against the notorious Lodge Lane slope. In the 31st minute, Jonny West coolly slotted a penalty, giving Dinnington some breathing room as they fought their way through the first half.
The real highlight came in the 52nd minute, when Dinnington produced what could be a contender for team try of the season. It all started with a textbook lineout near the halfway line, with the jumper soaring like a salmon to claim the ball. From there, the backs took charge, executing a slick passing sequence that saw Ben White finish off a sensational move in the corner. West, now in full kicking form, nailed the tough conversion from the touchline to extend Dinnington’s lead.
Dinnington’s third try was a reward for sheer grit and determination. Deep inside their own half, they forced a crucial turnover and launched a long, pinpoint kick that pinned Huddersfield back near their try line. The chase was relentless, forcing Huddersfield's back three into a desperate retreat. After another turnover, Kai Ramrattan muscled his way over from short range, with West adding yet another conversion.
Dinnington soon completed the scoring, grabbing their fourth and bonus-point try. After a series of strong drives from the forwards, Huddersfield's defence finally ran out of steam, allowing Dean McAulay to dive over and cap off a dominant display. The final score: 27-7 to Dinnington.
Next up, Dinnington face a tough test as they travel to Yarnbury, an early-season promotion rival.
